Linux Mint

E-mail Print

On Tuesday I booted Linux Mint on a computer that gets a fair amount of walk in traffic that uses the computer for surfing the web.

One thing that I had never seen before was compiz working with no user configuration and as the default window manager.

Windows XP had been servicable, but there have been issues about what is being downloaded on the machine.

I left the computer with Fire Fox open and told the office manager that she could get the computer running windows by just rebooting.  I was expecting to see the computer running XP when I stopped by today.

The only change that I could see from when I left the computer was the home page being changed.

This is making me wonder if the increase in FireFox use and web apps have finally reached the state that everyone was  claiming would be here in1995 when Netscape went public.

I also wonder if I should keep the computer running a live cd.

The performance leaves a bit to be desired, but I could make a large swap partition on the hard drive, and a regularly scheduled reboot would wipe out all the weird toolbars and such.
